Another Reality TV actor has committed suicide. This should make us all question why we need to be voyeurs and the harm it is causing us all, as individuals and in our relationships. In her book Reality bites back-The troubling truth about gulity pleasure TV Jennifer Pozner suggests that human beings are copycats.
We think we are above the advertising and know that the characters are not real, yet we find ourselves imitating them and thinking like they do the very next day. The other sad reality of this type of TV is that the producers actually choose emotionally volatile and vulnerable people as the actors, to heighten the action and drama – not admitting the potential risk. I refuse to let my daughters watch this thse types of shows – no matter how good it might make her or me feel. It’s toxic.
