Only 27 percent of TED talks are by women

Recent research shows that out of the more than 12,000 speakers in the TED talk series with over a billion watchers, only 27 percent are women. Apparently  June Cohen , Exec Producer of TED Media is concerned and is aiming for more women. According to Cohen, many women feel they are not ready to talk on the TED stage and this is not surprising, “given that women are scrutinized, questioned and criticized more deeply than men are for things like physical appearance and their voices. ” As for me, I see everywhere, even powerful women inheriting a deep fear of speaking our truths. Sadly the attacks on women journalist in the UK reinforces this fear. [Source: PLoS One; Alison Taylor,  www.piquenewsmagazine.com, Aug 8, 2013].
