Our government just pretends to honour women

I am surprised by the outrage showed by Justice Minister Rob Nicholson in our House Of Commons. His talk condemned the murderers of the four Shafia women (Murder is Murder). He got a standing ovation – but only from his Conservative member colleagues. Mr Nicholson and his peers failed to notice that they have not as a government tried to address gender violence. Indeed one of this Conservative governments first actions was to gut their own Status of Women organisation and pull funding from so many womens programs. Although our government appears to care, obviously not where money is concerned. It is not just murder Mr Nicholson it is our deeply embedded Canadian culture that continues to treat women as second-class citizens, not worthy of the protection from murder. This issue could benefit from a few grand speeches in the House.
