Don’t let your teen watch movies

Recent research shows that those teens who watch movies showing people drinking alcohol are more likely to start drinking sooner. No surprise, except that SO many movies show young adults drinking. Think of all those movies where college students are seen drinking themselves silly and doing stupid and dangerous things with no apparent consequences – except maybe a minor hangover or slight embarrassment. No deaths, injuries, sexually transmitted diseases or pregnancies. So I remind myself to limit access to my kid’s movie viewing and to continually remind them that media is not reality. Media is not reality. Repeat. [Source BMJ Online Magazine, March 2012)
