New CBA President says women lawyers still lag

The new head of the Canadian Bar Association of BC is a woman and clearly knows what she is talking about.  Sharon Mathews, a seasoned lawyer writes in her first column (in BarTalk, October) that despite the gains for women lawyers, true equality and diversity eludes us. She says that the fact that we cannot retain women, or attract a range of diversity in law is problems of the whole profession, not just a few and definitely not just women. She suggests, as many before her have, that if we lawyers were more diverse we would not only be able to serve our clients better but would but would be better viewed by society. And I would suggest a whole lot happier bunch! Perhaps Ms Mathews will help bring this change about through her leadership.
