Wow. A professor emeritus at Yale University who is also a Catholic nun has been told by the Pope that her award-winning 2006 book, “Just Love – A Framework for Christian Sexual Ethics” is not appropriate. Her book mentions both masturbation and homosexuality. The Vatican wrote a stinging report telling her that her writing manifest a “defective understanding of the objective nature of natural moral law” and poses “grave harm to the faithful.” Two months ago the Vatican also criticized the Sisters of Mercy who represents most American nuns as “promoting radical feminist ideas.” I can’t tell you how pleased I am to hear that these nuns are doing such good work and that Sister Margaret Farley did not change her book when the Vatican urged her to do so.
