AdBusters, the Vancouver-based magazine that inspired the world-wide Occupy Movement has a new target: Christmas shopping. It is calling its campaign Occupy Xmas and is asking people to buy nothing for Christmas this year. This is very original since instead of simply asking shoppers to buy less they are trying to topple the big corporations that benefit most from shopping. The target is big business. The movement feels that Christmas has been hijacked by commercial forces and that shopping has become a soul-less ritual. I agree. Christmas can be so much more fun that just shopping, wrapping and Black Fridays. I am taking out my crafters supplies right now.
