Dr. Carl Wieman is a brilliant man and now he is using $10 million to share what he knows through the University of British Columbia (UBC) Wieman Science Education Initiative. Like many thought leading educators before him, Wieman believes that learning should not be top-down but rather a partnership between teacher and student.
His ultimate goal, however, is not just to train teachers to teach differently. It is to bring about a cultural change where teachers and students work together stimulating their collective thinking to the fullest extent. Carl’s wife, professor Sarah Gilbert, is the acting director. I love their work! (Source: Globe & Mail 29 November 2011)
