Sad to see the $50 bill erase famous five women

This month the federal government removed women from the Canadain $50 bill. It replaced an important image and words on the bill and in doing so set woman back, again. The image was of the “famous five” women who in 1929 fought to have women declared “persons” under the law. This legal case set a new course for all of human rights. The words on the $50 bill that were also replaced (with a icebreaker!) are from the 1948 universal declaration of Human Rights – in my opinion THE most important law ever written: “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.” Sadly the current government did not think these images and words were worth keeping in the hands of Canadians.   (thanks to Rennie Keats of Vancouver for sharing this information)
