Wake up: Wife Beating an International Epidemic

The WHO (World Health Organisation) just published research on domestic violence. Almost 40% of all women killed worldwide were killed by an intimate partner. A lover! A husband! Nearly 600million women live in countries where domestic violence is not even a crime!  It’s time to name the problem for what it is. It is not about women, it is about power. It’s about whole cultures where women have no real power to leave. It is about how we all support abuse of power through our legal, economic and marriage systems. We can’t keep hoping women will escape. We must give women (and their children) money, status and power, somehow.  [Source: Vancouver Sun, June 24, 2013]
