According to a recent article by Yvonnne Zacharias, the glass ceiling is causing more women to leave corporations and become entrepreneurs. No real surprise. Between 2000 and 2011 self-employed women in Canada grew by 23%. An Ipsos Reid survey of 500 top female executives discovered the vast majority of women still feel the glass ceiling. Joanne Norris a VanCity consultant summarizes the problem in the article, “….apart from the corporations’ lack of flexibity to deal wtih the traditional female roles of caring for children the elderly, they often don’t reflect women’s concerns for the environment, their desire for contribution to community, their social values and their desire to create a more holistic society.” Well said!
