As lawyer, I was brought it to tackle situations of harrassment and bullying. All were painful. Now, rather than counting on a corporate anti-bully policy and a complex process, a new law in British Columbia allows workers who are harassed or bullied to seek Workers Compensation. In the past, this workers insurance only covered mental stress arising from sudden or unexpected event (such as a bank teller in a hold up). Right now WorkSafe BC receives about 1,000 claims a year for mental stress out of about 150,000 claims a year, mostly physical injuries. This law not only makes it easier to report harassment, and provides compenasion for those harassed but also places more pressure on employers to create harassment free workplaces. I think this is good. [Source: Vancouver Sun, 4 July 2012]
