I am shocked that someone (likely a lawyer) told the RCMP regulators that it “was fine” for one of its police officers to participate in sado-masochistic activities – not during work hours of course. This officer actually posted online videos of him tying up and slashing naked women. Later he said it was no issue because there was no victim. No victim? He was actually one of the officers who helped with the Pickton sex-workers serial murder case. It’s not just bad optics. This shows that the RCMP corporate rules of acceptable behaviour are completely out of whack. I am sure no citizen would think that this behaviour is acceptable for a “competent” police officer – who is responsible for protecting citizens against violence. On or off work. As one counsellor said, at the minimum this activity impairs his empathetic abilities. This mishap by the RCMP is so absurd I am still shaking my head. Would you want your local police officer sexually degrading a woman?
