I know I am supposed to support the Gender Studies department at UBC but I find it impossible to engage when the upcoming topics is: “Go Figure! Public Pedagogies, Invisible Impairments and the Performative Paradoxes of Visibility as Veracity.” This is part of the reason why I write in plain language for women. So they are not subjected to scientification and acedademitization (I made these words up!). It smells like university women are falling into the trap of trying to prove they are truly “academic.” It’s just another symptom of a poorly designed education system that promotes this. I call on professors everywhere to make their academic topics not only comprehensible but useful to the people (women) they serve.
