As a lawyer I am shocked that this case was appealed twice by our government lawyers (crimnal prosecutors) at the public expense all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada!. In the words of a few law students “The Crown is prosecuting Ms Ryan with a vengeance.” Apparently Ms Ryan was beaten, sexually assaulted and threatened with guns for 15 years by her husband. She and her daughter were stalked and continually threatened. She called the police 21 times. In fear of her life, she tried to hire someone to kill her husband. This person was an undercover police officer. The Nova Scotia trial court found her not guilty. The Nova Scotia Appeal court found her not guilty and now the Supreme Court of Canda has to decide the case again. This is disgusting abuse of public legal funds. Ms Ryan has no money for lawyers and is being dragged through years of trials and sadly defended by volunteers and those using donations and charity money (e.g. Elizabeth Fry Societies and LEAF). I wonder: Who on erath is making the decision to appeal cases? And on what grounds?
