I was embarrassed to call myself a lawyer when I read about lawyer Dirk Derstine’s cross examination of Tara McDonald – the mother of the 8 year old girl who was brutally murdered in Woodstock Ontario in 2009. In trying to defend his client (who is accused of help the woman who is already in jail for this murder) , he suggested that Ms McDonald was a bad mother by allowing her to walk home from school on her own. I shudder at the ripple effect this has on all mothers. Even though the girl was snatched two minutes after leaving school we mothers are somehow blamed for not doing enough. Shame on you Mr Derstine. This not only does not advance your case, or you as a person, but taints all lawyers.
