I just read about the new play “Leave of Absence” directed by Lucia Frangione. It is playing in Vancouver BC until February 16 at the Pacific Theatre (www.pacifictheatre.org). It apparently tackles teen bullying, sexuality and religion through the eyes of a 15 year old girl. I think I will go see it. [Source: Vancouver Sun, Mark
Debra Dolan wrote a great letter to the editor in the Vancouver Sun about the power of writing groups. As she says, writing groups are, “… not just a way of preserving our own life, it is way to understand and clarify buried meanings. To sit with others who answer a single prompt such as “Tell
Professor Marjorie Griffin Cohen, a brilliant researcher at SFU suggests that women should vote against any government that introduces policies that harm women. What does that mean? Here are a few practical examples from her recent Op Ed in the Vancouver Sun (17 Dec 12) merged with my ideas: Minimum wage. When governments change the minimum

Daphne Bramham wrote a great article today: “There is nothing sweet about these daddies” in the Vancouver Sun (25 Jan 2013). She was refering to the company that links women with “sugar daddies” to help them pay for tuition. As Daphne says about the men who set up these sites and the men who are offering money
Janet Austin is so smart. When recently asked why women can’t seem to get ahead she said that there are lots of great and well-educated women out there. But they are under-employed. In her opinion (which I share) we we create conditions that make it difficult (I say impossible) for these women to use their education
I just read an upsetting Op Ed by Michael Zwaagstra, a so-called expert on school and discipline from Manitoba. Sadly he suggests that the Sandy Hook school massacre could have been prevented from a “common sense” approach (e.g. more rules and order). He rejects a zero-tolerance lock-down approach (I agree) but also rejects restorative approaches promoted by Alfie
