I just heard about the first all female-owned video game studio: Silicone Sisters Inc. It is Vancouver based and they have about 3000 (mostly teen girls) followers on Facebook. Good for you Brenda Bailey Gershkovitch and Kirsten Forbes. I am definitely going to look them up! www.siliconesisters.ca
I just read that suicides are increasing amoung young Canadain girls. Suicide rates for girls aged 10-14 increased 50 (yes 50!) percent from 1980 to 2008. There were no reasons provided, but if my reseasrch is right, girls are facing more pressures and expectations than ever before and there are fewer buffers like solid
I just read a great article in the Globe and Mail about all the great peolpe and programs that teach boys how to be real men without being violent and misogynist. I attended the YWCA Vancouver screening of Miss Representation, a great empowering documentary for women. All I can say is GO WATCH IT NOW! Then call me and we will start a new movement.
I agree with Paddy McCallum when he says, “Porn is the elephant in the room” as it relates to girls and boys fractured relationships. Kids are consuming vast amounts of extreme pornography and no one wants to talk about it. Mr McCallum, a seasoned teacher said in a recent news article that about 8
SextUp Kids is a documentary must see. Maureen Palmer, the award winning director of SextUp Kids said that three things created the perfect storm for today’s weird teen sexual behaviours. First the hyper sexualisation of the media, second the extreme ease of access to pornography – especially by boys age 10-13 (!) and the
